If you would like to get involved in The Chantry project there are a number of ways that you can get involved depending on your interests. There is no minimum commitment that you need to sign up for - just help out when you can spare the time.
Onsite at The Chantry - work on site generally takes place from early spring to late autumn weather permitting. There is a core team that works on lifting and resetting the gravestones, the work is done with very little in terms of lifting equipment but there is a wealth of experience to call upon.
The work is quite strenuous so some physical fitness is required. If you fancy something still onsite but at a gentler pace then there is always general gardening type maintenance to do in terms of cutting the grass, moving weeds that may obscure the gravestones. There are usually people onsite weekdays Wednesday to Friday, and both Saturday and Sunday at weekends.
From your armchair - work is ongoing in terms of logging the graves and burials - but there is plenty to do. We are also looking for people to contribute to this site in terms of maybe sharing stories, memories or maybe writing a piece about a particular grave. We want to make the site a source of information about the history of The Chantry but also to share some of the stories of the people buried there.
